TOILET UNIT

The toilet unit is a line-replaceable unit for ease of maintenance. It takes less than 30 minutes to install or replace.

TOILET CONTROLLER

The controller automatically commissions the system upon installation and has powerful diagnostics software.

COMPRESSOR UNIT

The compressor is also a line-replaceable unit and performs two functions - 1: Supplies air to the ejector on the toilet to create a vacuum in the intermediate tank to draw the waste from the toilet bowl, and 2: Pressurises the intermediate tank to eject the waste through the waste pipe to the waste tank.

SHAFT ENCODER

Designed and manufactured by Bakara to replace old technology on the South African Metrorail fleet. The IP66 rotary encoder transmits two square waves 90 degrees apart to the propulsion controller to confirm the rotation (direction and rotational velocity) of the wheels of the coach.

SHAFT ENCODER HUB

A Bakara fabricated product replacing the older cast-iron shaft encoder mounting hub (shown in the picture on the right).

SHAFT ENCODER INSTALLATION

The redesign of the shaft encoder had to address the reliability issues with the original one that was on the motor coach and included the resistance to water ingress, mounting, flexible coupling and ease of maintenance.

BOGIE ODOMETER - TRAILER

Bakara was requested by the South African Metrorail to design mountings for odometers on one axle on the bogie of both the motor coach and trailer coach.

The design shown is for the trailer coaches and simply clamps on to the bearing cap bolt heads.
